Camp Howze Museum

Latino Soldiers

At Camp Howze, Latinos were especially appreciated for their talents. According to the National World War II Museum, "over 500,000 Latinos (including 350,000 Mexican Americans and 53,000 Puerto Ricans) served in WWII." In addition to advertising the United Service Organizations (USO's) Latin American-themed shows, the Camp Howze Howitzer made the presence of their Latino soldiers known with articles highlighting their cultural interests and musical skills.
